Establishing the R&D center in Australia's industrial center is among the strategic steps the local automaker has adopted to enter the world market.

Melbourne, which is considered a "headquarters" of several major car manufacturers including Toyota, Ford, Mitsubishi, GM, has available facilities, supply chains, and manpower, VinFast said.

The Australia office will research and develop new models and lay the foundation for the expansion of VinFast's global market, realizing its target to become a global automobile brand by connecting with global leading suppliers.

The new office employs a hundred official employees, who are high-profile experts and engineers from the world's leading automobile corporations GM, Toyota, Ford, Jaguar Land Rover.

The Auto newbie sold 5,124 cars in the first quarter to rank fifth among auto brands in Vietnam, VnExpress cited data from Vietnam Register.

VinFast, Vietnam’s first domestic auto company, has a plant with a capacity of 250,000 cars and 250,000 electric bikes a year in the northern port city of Hai Phong.

Last month, the company said it would start the mass production of its first electric models next year at its plant in Vietnam and will target the U.S. market.
