South Korea’s Kakao Mobility has partnered with VinFast as part of the former’s plans to boost transportation infrastructure in Vietnam through collaboration with local industry players.

The deal includes plans to integrate Green and Smart Mobility (GSM), an electric taxi rental platform within the Vingroup network, with ride-hailing service Kakao T. According to a statement from Kakao Mobility, Vietnam is emerging as one of the most popular tourist destinations for Koreans, while South Korea saw roughly 300,000 Vietnamese tourists visit the country in the past year.

Established in 2017, VinFast has become a prominent player of the Southeast Asian EV landscape, selling the largest number of units among EV players in 2022.

Meanwhile, Vingroup founder Pham Nhat Vuong launched GSM in March. It recently rolled out its services in the central city of Da Nang earlier this month, starting with a fleet of 500 vehicles.

Kakao Mobility also announced that it is in talks with FPT, a Vietnam-based ICT firm, about potential collaborations with local startup investments, among others.
